THE OPENING TIP
- Riding a two-game winning streak, Duke squares off with Miami on ESPN's Big Monday in Coral Gables with the Blue Devils looking to stay hot as the calendar turns to February.

- The Blue Devils have won four straight in the series over the Hurricanes and are 22-7 all-time versus Miami, including 9-5 in road games (7-4 at the Watsco Center).
- Duke was boosted by a balanced offensive attack with five in double figures and 20 assists on 28 made field goals in a 79-53 win over Clemson on Saturday at Cameron Indoor. The 26-point margin and 53 points allowed each stood as Duke's best this season.
- This season, Duke is 7-0 when scoring 75+ points, 4-0 when shooting .500+ and 7-1 when winning the rebounding battle.
- The Blue Devils have used eight different starting lineups through 12 games with only sophomore Matthew Hurt starting all 12.
- Hurt is the ACC's second-leading scorer overall (18.7) and second in conference play (18.5). He is also fourth in the ACC in rebounding (7.8), fifth in field goal percentage (.538) and fifth in most made three-pointers per game (2.3) -- the only player ranked in the ACC's top five in each category.
- In ACC play, freshman DJ Steward is 15th in scoring (14.3) and fifth in free throw percentage (.840). He leads all ACC freshmen in each category.
- Senior Jordan Goldwire, who leads the ACC in assist/turnover ratio this season (+3.13), has posted a +6.00 ratio over the last seven games with 30 assists against just five turnovers.
- Goldwire also has two or more steals in 11 of 12 games this season and ranks second in the ACC in steals (15th nationally).
- Freshman Jalen Johnson is averaging 15.0 points, a team-leading 8.3 rebounds and shooting .550 from the floor over his last four games.
- Freshman Mark Williams has established a career high in points in each of the last two games with six in the Georgia tech win and 11 against Clemson.
DUKE VS. MIAMI
Duke is 22-7 all-time versus Miami and has won four straight in the series and seven of the last 10 ... The Blue Devils won two lopsided games last season, prevailing at Miami, 95-62, on January 4 and in Durham, 89-59, 17 days later … Sophomore
Matthew Hurt scored a team-high 22 points in last year's second meeting and averaged 17.5 points in the sweep … Hurt was a combined 14-of-19 (.737) from the field, 5-of-9 (.556) from three-point range and averaged six rebounds against the Canes last season … Monday is the teams' only scheduled meeting this season.

Miami is yielding 69.0 points per game … Due to injuries and other personnel decisions, Miami played at Wake Forest Saturday with just six available scholarship players … Miami is the lone ACC team yet to have its schedule affected by cancellations or postponements this season.

HURT'S IMPROVEMENT
Making a case for ACC Player of the Year, but also the conference's Most Improved Player, sophomore
Matthew Hurt is the only player ranked in the ACC's top five for scoring (18.7), field goal percentage (.538) and rebounding (7.8) … Of all returning ACC players, his points per game improvement of +8.93 from last season (9.74 to 18.67) is third-best in the league … The sophomore has also improved his field goal shooting (.487 to .535), his three-point accuracy (.393 to .444), added four rebounds per game on average (3.8 to 7.8) and playing 13 more minutes per contest (20.6 to 33.2) … He's also making more than double the amount of field goals per game, and nearly one more three-pointer per game than last year.
SENIOR STEPPING UP
Senior
Jordan Goldwire is the only player ranked in the ACC's top 10 for assist/turnover ratio (+3.13, first), steals (2.4, second) and assists (3.9, seventh) … He is 15th nationally in steals per game and 22nd in the nation in assist/turnover ratio -- one of two players nationally, and the only power conference player, ranked in the NCAA's top 25 for both … Only Georgia Tech senior Jose Alvarado (91) and Boston College senior Steffon Mitchell (83) have more steals over the last two seasons than Goldwire's 76 … Goldwire has recorded at least two steals in 11 of 12 games this season, after registering at least one in 24 of 31 games in last year … His career-high five steals came against Winthrop last year and he has recorded four steals twice this season (Illinois, Virginia Tech) … Goldwire has 30 assists and five turnovers over Duke's last seven games -- a +6.0 assist/turnover ratio … When Goldwire leads Duke in assists, the Blue Devils are 5-1 this season and 11-2 in his career.
STEWARD LEADS ALL FRESHMAN IN ACC SCORING
Freshman
DJ Steward, already twice named ACC Freshman of the Week this season, is Duke's second leading scorer at 13.4 points, while averaging 4.4 rebounds, shooting .431 from the field and leading the team in free throw percentage (.844) … In ACC play, Steward ranks 15th in the conference in scoring (14.3) and fifth in free throw percentage (.840). He leads all ACC freshmen in each category … The Chicago native posted a 19-point, five-rebound, three-assist effort against Georgia Tech, and is six games removed from his ACC-career-high 21 points versus Wake Forest … Steward has hit at least one three-pointer in nine consecutive games … He has scored in double figures nine times this season, in three consecutive games and in eight of the last nine games.
DUKE AWAY FROM CAMERON
In the Coach K era, Duke is 261-149 (.637) in true road games and 275-77 (.781) in neutral site games, for a combined mark of 536-226 (.704) in all games outside of Cameron Indoor Stadium … In ACC regular season play, Duke is 190-124 (.605) away from home under Coach K. The Blue Devils are 134-71 (.656) in ACC road games since the 1996-97 season … In ACC Tournament play, Duke's .696 winning percentage and 103 wins each lead the conference … Coach K's 190 ACC road wins are a conference record … Coach K has also won 16 road games against AP top five teams, the most in the history of the AP poll.
