No. 6 Duke Outlasted by No. 12 Georgia Tech

ATLANTA – The sixth-ranked Duke women's tennis team fell to No. 12 Georgia Tech, 4-3, in a marathon match to end the 2021 ITA Kickoff Weekend Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.
With the loss, the Blue Devils drop to 2-1 as the Yellow Jackets improve to 3-0. The defeat snaps a 12-year streak of Duke advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
For the third time this season, the Blue Devils captured the doubles point. Duo Kelly Chen and Georgia Drummy cruised to a 6-1 win over Ruth Marsh and Ava Hrastar on court three before Chloe Beck and Karolina Berankova picked up a 6-2 victory against Gia Cohen and Carol Lee on court two. With the victories, Chen and Drummy improve to 4-2 in doubles as Beck and Berankova elevate to a team-best 6-1.
Georgia Tech evened the score (1-1) with a win on court four. No. 123 Cohen defeated No. 29 Beck (6-3, 6-3), handing Beck her second loss this season.
Rookie Berankova allowed Duke to regain the lead as she picked up a win on court six. Ranked No. 95 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), Berankova defeated Marsh 6-3, 6-2 for her third win this spring.
Junior Margaryta Bilokin extended Duke's lead (3-1) to claim her fifth win of the season. Tabbed No. 44, Bilokin outlasted Lee in a second-set tiebreak (6-2, 7-6 [5]) to claim the victory.
Minutes later, the Yellow Jackets answered with a court one victory. No. 13 Kenya Jones rebounded from a first set loss to defeat No. 8 Chen (4-6, 6-0, 6-4) in the three-set marathon.
Georgia Tech tied the match up (3-3) as No. 56 Victoria Flores defeated No. 111 Meible Chi (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) on court three.
It all came down to court two between No. 28 Drummy and Hrastar. Drummy was unable to hold off Hrastar in a three-set match that featured two tiebreaks. Drummy took the first set (6-2) but couldn't finish in the second (6-7 [5]) and third sets (6-7 [3]).
Duke will next host Furman Sunday, Jan. 31.
