DURHAM, N.C. - The sixth-ranked Duke women's tennis team is set for the 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend, which will take place Jan. 23-24 in Atlanta, Ga.
In addition to Duke and the host team No. 12 Georgia Tech, No. 22 Michigan and No. 14 South Carolina are also slated to compete in the two-day event. The winner from each of the 15 sites earns a trip to Stillwater, Okla., to compete in the 2021 ITA National Team Indoor Championship, scheduled for Feb. 5-7.
The Blue Devils are first slated to take on Michigan Saturday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. Duke is guaranteed another match and will then face either Georgia Tech or South Carolina on Sunday.
The Blue Devils are coming off a dominant sweep in the 2021 spring opener over Charlotte on Jan. 14.
Duke features six players on the ITA singles rankings list and two doubles teams. Headlining the Blue Devils in singles is No. 8 Kelly Chen, followed by No. 28 Georgia Drummy, No. 29 Chloe Beck, No. 44 Margaryta Bilokin, No. T95 Karolina Berankova and No. 111 Meible Chi. On the doubles side, Beck and Chen are tied for 34th while Drummy and Berankova check in at No. 56.
Duke leads the all-time series, 10-3, against Michigan and last met in 2019. Saturday's match marks the first for the Wolverines this season after posting a 5-6 overall record in the abbreviated 2020 season.
The Blue Devils hold a strong 36-10 series record over their ACC opponent in the Yellow Jackets and lead 18-8 against South Carolina. Duke and South Carolina last met in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals in Orlando, Fla., where the Blue Devils came away with a 4-1 victory.
This will be Georgia Tech's first match of the season while South Carolina owns a 2-1 ledger already this spring.
Following the ITA Kickoff Weekend, the Blue Devils will welcome Furman to the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center Jan. 31.
