DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's lacrosse junior Anna Callahan was recently featured in Inside Lacrosse magazine where she writes about mental health, sexuality, identity and other social topics in her story Unapologetically Myself.
"Hi, my name is Anna Callahan.
I am a women's lacrosse player majoring in political science at Duke University."
"That is the expectation for the introduction of my identity. Expectation and identity are intertwined in so many ways that creating impressions is a thin line to walk. For many people, society instills in their minds that they can achieve success by following societal norms.
When introducing myself and my success, I rarely factor in the raw and honest truth about how I got where I am. There is so much more that meets the eye than what the surface shows the world.
How do you know who someone really is by just hearing their name, their school, and their major? I am here to tell you my story and how I defied my old identity and expectations."
