DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach
Marissa Young and Duke softball are excited to announce its highly anticipated 2021 spring slate.
The Blue Devils' 50-game schedule features 27 home games and 10 ACC series. Duke is scheduled to host an ACC Pod Weekend and will co-host the Duke Invitational with Campbell.
Young's squad opens its season at the LSU Tiger Classic where Duke will play Central Arkansas (2), LSU, McNeese and Kansas Feb. 12-14. The Blue Devils will spend the next month in the state of North Carolina, beginning with the ACC Pod Weekend Feb. 18-21, as they play two three-game series against Pitt and Notre Dame. Virginia and Louisville will also participate in the pod held at the Duke Softball Stadium.
Joining forces with Campbell the following weekend, Feb. 26-28, Duke hosts Akron, St. John's, Marshall, and Eastern Kentucky for a seven-game invitational. The Blue Devils will play four games – one against each team in attendance.
The Blue Devils will have four midweek contests this spring, including NC Central at home on Wednesday, March 3, before hitting the road for Charlotte (March 4), Elon (March 17) and Campbell (May 5).
Duke welcomes Virginia to open league play in Durham March 12-14. In an attempt to safely maximize schedules, the ACC will play a four-game conference series with doubleheaders on Saturday throughout the season. Duke hosts Syracuse (March 19-21) before traveling to Clemson, S.C. for its first series in program history against the Tigers (March 26-28).
The following weekend, Duke hosts Virginia Tech in ACC action (April 2-4) before two straight road trips at Florida State (April 9-11) and Louisville (April 16-18).
The Blue Devils play their final home games of the 2021 season against North Carolina April 23-25. Duke closes out its regular season with a weekend series down the road in Raleigh as the Blue Devils face NC State (May 7-9).
This year's ACC Softball Championship will be held at Ulmer Stadium in Louisville, Ky., May 12-15. The NCAA Selection Show will be on Sunday, May 16 at 10 p.m. ET. NCAA Regionals are set to take place May 20-23, NCAA Super Regionals May 27-30, and the Women's College World Series will run June 3-9 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Duke returns 19 of 20 student-athletes from the 2020 squad that put together a program-best 23-4 record, earning the first national ranking in school history at No. 25 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25. Along with three seniors using their extra year of eligibility, Duke's 2021 roster features six freshmen.
FAN INFORMATION
Due to the impact of COVID-19, Duke University will begin its spring sport program seasons without spectators at home events. Contests played on Duke's campus will include essential game management personnel and broadcast media. Traditional parking lots used by fans on game day will be closed.
Blue Devil fans can support Duke softball with cutouts of yourself, family members or favorite pets. Cutouts will be displayed for the entirety of the season regardless of the future determination for allowing spectators into the venue.
