DURHAM, N.C.—Duke freshman
Nick Pariano's first collegiate goal has earned the midfielder his first weekly honor as he was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week. Pariano scored the winning goal with 34 seconds remaining in double overtime against NC State Saturday.
Pariano, coming off making his first collegiate start at Kentucky, came off the bench to lift Duke to a thrilling 1-0 double overtime victory over the Wolfpack. The Philadelphia native put himself in perfect position in the final seconds and curled a left-footed shot around a pair of NC State defenders for the win.
In two games this season, Pariano has played a total of 92 minutes. He was one of five freshmen to start in their collegiate debuts at Kentucky, Sept. 21. He played 47 minutes versus the Wildcats and 45 against NC State.
The Blue Devils, who sit atop the North Division standings with three points, return home to host North Carolina Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
