DURHAM, N.C.— The ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel released its preseason watch list Thursday with Duke University women's golf senior
Jaravee Boonchant among the student-athletes selected.
The ANNIKA Award split the watch list candidates into two groups – those that are playing team golf in the fall and those that are playing in the spring.
The ACC cancelled team competition among the 12 ACC women's golf teams on July 29, 2020 because of health concerns surrounding COVID-19. There are plans for the league to resume action in the spring.
Boonchant joins Linn Grant (Arizona State), Vivian Hou (Arizona), Rachel Kuehn (Wake Forest), Olivia Mehaffey (Arizona State), Emilia Migliaccio (Wake Forest), Alessia Nobilio (UCLA), Gabriela Ruffels (Southern California), Emma Spitz (UCLA) and Angelina Ye (Stanford) on the spring list. There are also 20 golfers on the fall list.
A product of Bangkok, Thailand, Boonchant is a three-time All-America selection. She has appeared in 27 career tournaments with the Blue Devils, while collecting a 71.95 stroke average, seven top five, 16 top 10 and 19 top 20 finishes. Boonchant owns 49 career rounds of even or under par, which ranks tied for seventh on Duke's career charts. She is coming off competing in five events in the shortened 2019-20 campaign and collecting a 72.31 stroke average. Boonchant finished No. 14 in the Golfweek final rankings.
Created in 2014, the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel is annually given to the top female U.S. Collegiate golfer. The winner is decided by a vote from student-athletes, coaches and members of the golf media. Named for and presented by Annika Sorenstam, the award was created in partnership with
the Haskins Commission to acknowledge the top female golfer at the end of the season, to match the Haskins Award presented by Stifel which acknowledges the top male Division I collegiate golfer.
Former Duke standout Leona Maguire won the ANNIKA Award on two occasions in 2015 and 2017.
