DURHAM, N.C.— A pair of Blue Devils – defender
Caitlin Cosme and goalkeeper
Ruthie Jones -- earned TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week accolades Tuesday, after spearheading the Duke women's soccer team's defense to allowing only one goal in two ACC matches this past week.
Cosme, a native of New Hyde Park, N.Y., collected her second goal in as many matches as she finished the equalizer against Virginia Thursday to help lead the Blue Devils to a 1-1 double-overtime draw with the Cavaliers. On Sunday, the senior center back led the Duke defense to a 0-0 draw with Wake Forest. Cosme played all 220 minutes at center back and completed 93.0 percent of her passes against the Demon Deacons.
Making her first two collegiate starts, Jones was very impressive in both matches last week. Jones closed the week against Wake Forest by stopping a penalty kick opportunity with under two minutes remaining in regulation, while collecting two saves over 110 minutes to preserve her first career shutout. In a rainstorm against Virginia Thursday for her first start, Jones was stellar notching six saves and allowing only one goal over 110 minutes.
Jones, who hails from Charlotte, N.C., owns a 0.41 goals against average in two matches.
Duke will next host North Carolina Sunday, Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium live on ACC Network.
