DURHAM, N.C. – Following three years as a program, recent graduate
Emilie Cieslak sits down with Duke softball alumnae to catch up and talk about their experiences. The second alumna featured is
Haley Wymbs.
After graduating in 2019, Wymbs got her master's degree from Duke in biomedical science. Since then, she's been studying for the MCAT and getting ready to apply to medical schools.
Here's some of the dialogue between Emilie and Haley.
Emilie: Which of Duke softball's core values have had the biggest impact on your life?
Haley: Living a life of excellence. Being surrounded by so many other great women who value living a life of excellence and value high character and standards has been really foundational for me. There is a reason that Duke softball sets a stand of excellence and high achieving academics/athletics without a question. Being an athlete helps you with everything going forward and Duke softball did a great job of setting that foundation for me.
Emilie: What is your favorite memory from Duke softball?
Haley: There are so many. As a whole, I really miss hacky sacking. Some of my most fun memories were out before games, just playing hacky sack and spending quality time with my teammates. I think as an individual memory, my favorite was getting ready for the triathlon training…it was one of those weird memories that I'm going to remember for the rest of my life.
Emilie: As an alumna, what was it like for you to watch Team Three?
Haley: I have been overwhelmed with happiness. I think our program has come so far and I'm so happy for this group of girls, because they're so incredibly deserving and hardworking. I think Coach Young did a great job of incorporating feedback from every year we have given her.
