SCOTLAND -- Former Duke men's golfer Alex Matlari will compete in the 131st annual University Golf Match between the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford's Blue Golf teams.
Commonly referred to as the Varsity Match, the yearly event will take place at the historic Muirfield Golf Course in Scotland, August 30-31. The match will start with foursomes on Sunday and will continue Monday with singles.
Dating back to 1878, the Varsity Match is the oldest amateur event in golf.
Matlari is competing for the Oxford squad, and will battle former Duke women's golfer Virginia Elena Carta, who is competing for the Cambridge side.
A native of Leiman, Germany, Matlari competed in 43 career events for the Blue Devils and graduated in 2017. He posted a career scoring average of 73.8, which included a pair of tournament wins as a senior in the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate and the Queens Invitational.
Since leaving Duke, Matlari attended graduate school at Oxford, where he recently graduated.
