DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore Cubby Biscardi caught up with GoDuke.com to reflect on her first year and talk about what she is looking forward to in 2020-21.
Biscardi was a common face in the Blue Devil defense in the shortened 2020 season. She appeared in all nine games and started the last two before the stoppage of play. In nine games she totaled seven ground balls, seven caused turnovers and six draw controls.
A native of Garden City, N.Y., Biscardi played one of her best games thus far at Duke in the Blue Devils' 16-10 win over No. 12 Virginia. In that contest she swooped in on the draw, gathering a career-high five draw controls. Biscardi closed out the season with two ground balls and two caused tunovers against East Carolina.
In addition to her success on the field, she was also named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

What was your favorite memory from this season?
"My favorite memory or rather memories were when we played dodgeball in our blue and white teams. It was always so competitive and fun. The coaches would even get involved in some games which made the stakes of winning even higher."
As a first year, did a specific teammate help you adjust to both campus and being on the team?
"Everyone on the team played a huge role in welcoming all of the freshmen and making sure we were always encouraged to do our best and feel at home. I think the one person in my mind that sticks out is Jojo (
Alexis Joseph). Through every practice and every drill she would always be able to either talk me down from getting in my own head, or talk me up to encourage me to do my best. In team meetings she would speak about protecting the team like family and I think I identified with that attitude especially coming in as a freshman."
What is your favorite class you have taken at Duke and why?
"My favorite class I have taken at Duke so far was Bodies of Evidence. It was an evolutionary anthropology course that focused on forensic science and the human body. We studied ballistics and cause/manner of death. It was a really interesting class."
How have you been spending your time since the season was cut short?
"Since the season was cut short, I have been spending quality time with family and friends. I have been baking and cooking a lot. Missy and I worked at Dunkin' Donuts as a barista/cashier which was really fun and helped to decrease our coffee spending."
Now that you are back on campus, how was move-in and what was it like returning to campus?
"Move in was great! We got tested right before we were able to get our keys and head over to the Swift Apartments where my class, freshmen, and some juniors live. It was great to see everyone, even in masks. Although we can't hang out as a team yet, it's just great to be back knowing everyone is around and I can't wait to be back with the team soon."
What do you look forward to most this year?
"I most look forward to getting to be with the team and getting back to the place we ended last season. I missed everyone and can't wait to see everyone again even with masks."
