Shuman, Paolini Make PGA Tour Debuts at Wyndham

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Duke men's golf team is represented by three former Blue Devils at this weekend's Wyndham Championship that begins Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
PGA Tour veteran Adam Long is joined by a pair of former Duke golfers making their first career PGA Tour starts -- Jake Shuman and Brinson Paolini. Shuman and Paolini each earned their spot via Monday's qualifier by finishing in the top two spots with only two spots available.
Long is off at 7:30 a.m. Thursday and will tee off at 12:45 p.m. Friday, being paired with Joaquin Neimann and Sebastian Munoz both days. Shuman, who will have assistant coach Bob Heintz as his caddy, tees off at 9 a.m. Thursday and 2:15 p.m. Friday. Paolini is also off at 9 a.m. Thursday and 2:15 p.m. Friday.
Long sits 24th on the FedEx Cup standings heading into this weekend's Wyndham, the final regular season event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin. Paolini turned pro in 2013 and has primarily competed on the European's Challenge Tour, where he finished second in his first pro start and won in his third start. Shuman turned pro in 2018 and has played primarily on the Mackenzie Tour.
"Everyone in our program is so proud and excited for Brinson and Jake and their families," said head coach Jamie Green, who coached both in his time at Duke. "In sports, a lot of time you hear of players who the rest of the game appreciates and likes, and two of those guys are Brinson and Jake. They're just people you root for. They're just as good as they come, and we're thrilled for them."
Paolini won the Byron Nelson Award while a senior at Duke and graduated with the second-lowest scoring average in Duke history. Shuman helped lead the Blue Devils to the NCAA match play semifinals as a senior, averaging 72.3 as a senior and beating then-No. 1 amateur Doug Ghim on the 18th hole to help Duke advance to NCAA semifinals.
"It's a great experience for them to making their first career starts so close to home," said Green. "And although there are no fans allowed, I know they will feel the support we have for them through texts, phone calls and social media posts from our staff, families, current and former players and supporters. They have certainly earned it."
Golf Channel airs live coverage of the Wyndham Championship Thursday and Friday from 2-6 p.m. ET. Saturday's coverage begins on Golf Channel from 1-3 p.m. and CBS from 3-6 p.m. ET. Sunday is 12:30-2:30 p.m. on Golf Channel and 2:30-6 p.m. ET on CBS.
