DURHAM, N.C -- The Duke University Department of Athletics has released its 2019-20 annual report, which details the storylines, moments and accomplishments of another outstanding year for the Blue Devils.
Check out some of the highlights below.
- Thirty-three Blue Devils garnered All-America honors during the 2019-20 sports season.Â
- Duke swimmer Max St. George was awarded a Fullbright Scholarship. A 2019 graduate, St. George will be using the scholarship to take the opportunity to teach English in Malaysia as part of the English Teaching Assistant Program.
-  Duke placed an ACC-record 572 student-athletes on the 2019-20 ACC Academic Honor Roll. Duke has paced the conference in ACC Honor Roll selections in 32 of the past 33 years. Among the 572 were five five-time ACC Honor Roll selections -– Quentin Harris (football), Kyra Lambert (women's basketball), Sammi Steele (field hockey), Turner Uppgren (men's lacrosse) and Sheridan Wilbur (track & field). The Honor Roll is comprised of varsity student-athletes who registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year.Â
- A total of 15 Duke teams achieved a 100 percent GSR: men's basketball, women's cross country/track & field, men's fencing, women's fencing, field hockey, men's golf, women's golf, women's lacrosse, rowing, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's swimming and diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, and volleyball.
- Nationally, the Duke football program ranked second among FBS schools with its 96 percent rate behind only Northwestern (100). Within the ACC, Duke's 96 percent rate was the highest and one of two schools in the 90 percent range. Â
- Ten of Duke's athletic programs were honored with NCAA Public Recognition Awards for finishing among the top 10 percent of their respective sports based on the most recent multiyear Academic Performance Rate (APR) – men's golf, men's lacrosse, men's soccer, women's cross country, women's fencing, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, women's track and field and volleyball. Nine of those teams – men's golf, men's soccer, women's cross country, women's fencing, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, women's track and field and volleyball – registered a perfect score of 1000.Â
- In men's basketball, Duke tied for the national lead with its 100 percent GSR rate.
- Blue Devils pitcher Bryce Jarvis was drafted 18th by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first round of the 2020 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. As the 18th pick, he became the highest selection in Duke baseball history.
- Seven Blue Devils were named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans – Jaravee Boonchant (women's golf), Chandler Eaton (men's golf), Eoin Gronningsater (men's fencing), Nathaniel Hernandez (men's swimming and diving), Bryce Jarvis (baseball), Daniele Proch (men's soccer) and Michael Rothenberg (baseball).
- Duke had five student-athletes garner postgraduate scholarships. Brittany Aveni, Eoin Gronningsater, Nathaniel Hernandez and Daniele Proch each were named Weaver-James-Corrigan Award recipients. Gronningsater, the ACC Fencing Scholar Athlete of the Year, also was one of 21 male student-athletes in the country to earn an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.Â
- Two Blue Devils - Alyssa Marsh (women's swimming and diving) and Meible Chi (women's tennis) were among the nominees for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
- Senior Cassie Martin and junior Erin Marsh captured ACC Indoor Track and Field titles in the high jump and pentathlon, respectively, at the 2020 ACC Indoor Championship. Marsh's 4,186 points rank second all-time at Duke.Â
- In the latest Princeton Review, Duke ranked 12th on the Best Career Placement list. The US News and World Report placed Duke 10th among all national universities and No. 8 on its Best Value Schools list. College Consensus ranked Duke No. 8 among all universities and tabbed it the best alumni networks, Duke placed No. 8. The rankings were originally formed from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Circle of Excellence Awards, which recognized alumni association staffs. The CASE awards provided a baseline. The rankings were then placed in order of Consensus Score, which brought together published reviews from experts and real student reviews.
