THE COLONY, Texas – In the second round of the Texas Women's Open, former Duke National Player of the Year Celine Boutier sizzled firing an impressive seven-under-par, 64, to surge into the lead at the Old American Golf Club in The Colony, Texas.
Boutier, who hails from France, went off in the morning and collected three birdies over her first six holes, including a chip-in on the par three fifth hole. She rolled in a six-footer for birdie on No. 10 and then added another birdie on the 12th to get to five-under-par for the day. Boutier nearly chipped in for eagle on No. 17 and then closed with an eight-foot birdie on No. 18 to finish with a bogey-free 64.
With a 10-under-par, 132, Boutier leads the field by three strokes as Cheyenne Knight stands at seven-under, 135. Former Duke All-America Yu Liu collected a three-under, 68, in the second round and is tied for fourth overall with a three-under, 139.
After turning in a three-under-par, 68, in round one, former Duke two-time All-America Brittany Lang carded a 72 in round two and is tied for sixth with a two-under, 140.
The field will be playing for a purse of $50,000 with the overall champion taking home $10,000.
Rising junior
Gina Kim completed her second round in the Carolinas Women's Amateur and is tied for seventh with a 152 through 36 holes. She will enter the final round only six shots off Kathryn Carson, who leads with a two-over-par, 146. Kim, who hails from Chapel Hill, N.C., was at two-under-par through 14 holes Wednesday, but closed with three bogeys over her final four holes to shoot a 74.
