DURHAM, N.C. – Recent Duke men's golf graduate
Chandler Eaton has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) 2020 Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team First Team, as announced by the organization Thursday.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District will advance to the Academic All-America ballot. The Division I honorees will be announced June 19.
One of 10 male student-athletes selected to the NCAA Division I All-District III team, Eaton was joined by fellow Blue Devils
Eoin Gronningsater (fencing) and
Nathaniel Hernandez (swimming & diving).
Jaravee Boonchant (women's golf), earned a spot on the women's team.
A two-time All-American selection, Eaton left his mark on the Duke program with the third-lowest career scoring average (71.59). The Alpharetta, Ga., native sits tied for No. 2 on Duke's career list for rounds in the 60s (35), ranked second in career rounds of par or better (71), tied for eighth in career top-5 finishes (nine) and 10th in career top-10 finishes (14). He was one of just four players nationally to finish in the top 15 in the NCAA Championships in 2018 and 2019, joining Oklahoma State's Matthew Wolff and Viktor Hovland and Stanford's Isaiah Salinda.
Eaton, who was one of just four amateurs to make the cut at the 2019 US Open at Pebble Beach and finished tied for 58
th, is the first Duke men's golfer to make the CoSIDA Academic All-District team since Brinson Paolini in 2013. He holds a Duke degree in Environmental Science & Policy.
