DURHAM, N.C. – Over the course of the next few weeks, Duke softball is checking in with its six incoming freshmen who had their last high school seasons cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first recruit checking in is
Lillie Walker – a pitcher from Oklahoma.
What have you been doing to prepare for Duke both athletically and academically?
Lillie: "Athletically, I've been going to physical therapy for my knee – I just had surgery on my ACL. I've been doing at-home workouts and having to improvise a little, because I don't have a weight set. I've been using buckets of sand and cinder blocks and other things I can find around the house for weights. Academically, I don't know what I want to major in yet so I've been doing a little bit of research about some majors I could pursue and career paths."
What are you most excited for about coming to Duke?
Lillie: "I'm most excited to join the softball family – they're a super tight group and I can't wait to be a part of it. I'm very excited to join the family, because they're on a roll and I can't wait to contribute and see how far we can go."
What have you been doing to keep yourself busy during the quarantine?
Lillie: "We added to the family and got a little duck. His name is Gussy and he likes to swim in the swimming pool, but I don't think I'm going to bring him with me to Duke."
