DURHAM, N.C. – Following four years with Duke men's tennis,
Nick Stachowiak graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in education. Â
Throughout his career at Duke, Stachowiak put together an 85-38 singles record while going 78-40 in doubles action. In his shortened senior season, he posted an 8-2 mark in dual action on Duke's top singles court and teamed up with junior
Sean Sculley for a 7-1 ledger at No. 1 doubles. Stachowiak finished the year at No. 107 in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings and finished No. 8 on the doubles list.
The Cary, N.C. native was an ITA National All-American Doubles semifinalist, a two-time All-ACC selection (Second Team '19, Third Team '18) and ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete, as well as a three-time member of the All-ACC Academic Team and ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Following his time with the program, Stachowiak took the time to reflect on some of his greatest memories and takeaways from his time as a Blue Devil.
What's your favorite memory with the men's tennis program?
"Clinching our first ACC match of my senior season against Virginia Tech on our home courts."
What will you miss the most about being a student-athlete at Duke?
"The team camaraderie and knowing that there was always something there for me that understood everything it took to be a top student-athlete at Duke."
If you could describe your experience as a Blue Devil in one word, what would it be?
"A gift."
What does it mean to you to have played on the team at Duke?
"Since I was seven years old, it was a dream of mine to be able to play for and represent Duke University and Duke men's tennis. Growing up in Cary, I watched Reid [Carleston], [Henrique] Cunha, [Fred] Saba – all of those guys – and to be able to have been among them was a dream come true."
What is the biggest lesson you've learned from head coach Ramsey Smith?
"To always leave everywhere you go better than you found it."
