DURHAM, N.C. – Freshman epeeist
Bowen Wang was tabbed ACC Fencer of the Year in his respective weapon, as announced by the conference office Thursday.
Wang becomes Duke's first freshman to garner the award.
In his first year with the Blue Devils, Wang compiled a 43-24 overall record for a 64.2 win percentage and helped the men's epee contingent go 15-10 in the regular season. He owned the No. 2 Fencing Strength Factor (FSF) rating this season at epee.
He also captured a silver medal during the individual competition at the 2020 ACC Fencing Championships to earn All-ACC recognition in the process.
He posted a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional on his home strips in Durham and qualified for the NCAA Fencing Championship before the remaining season was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
