DURHAM, N.C. – As Duke softball continues to highlight its top moments of the 2020 season, the Blue Devils reveal their seventh-best play of the year.
MOMENT NO. 7 | TAPIA CRAWL TO THE BAG
The Blue Devils carried a 2-1 lead into the top of the seventh inning in the first contest of the Big 10/ACC Challenge on Friday, Feb. 14, against Indiana. The Hoosiers opened the frame with a leadoff walk before
Peyton St. George struck out the next two batters. Indiana drew another walk, putting pressure on the Blue Devils with two runners on. In what would be the last at-bat, Taylor Lambert sent a shot up the middle, but freshman
Gisele Tapia made an impressive grab and crawled to tag second base for the final out of the game.
All three runs of the game were scored in the first inning as the Hoosiers' lone run came from a solo homer by Grayston Radcliffe. In the bottom half of the frame, Tapia reached on an error by her counterpart which allowed two Blue Devils to cross home plate (2-1). St. George recorded the win in the circle, hurling 5.2 innings in which she struck out 12 Hoosiers to tie her career high.
GISELE'S REFLECTION
"As a team, we prepare offensively and defensively, but our work is never done. To be able to assist my team in this win was a reward for our hard work! We all did small things throughout the game, with great love, and together we were able to celebrate an amazing win!"
