Duke baseball play-by-play announcer Chris Edwards is giving fans an inside look at some of his memorable baseball moments throughout his eight years as the Voice of the Blue Devils. The events highlighted during this series are not meant to be a complete listing of all memorable accomplishments, but a sampling of great moments in Edwards' words.
The Duke Blue Devils broke a 55-year NCAA Tournament drought in 2016 and were selected to participate in the Columbia Regional, hosted by the University of South Carolina. While the weekend did not go quite as well as the Blue Devils had hoped, their run to the postseason was another giant step forward for the program.Â
Â
Facing elimination, Duke battled national power South Carolina all afternoon long behind a gutty pitching performance from senior left-hander, Trent Swart. Swart worked 8.0 innings and allowed only three runs while tossing 118 pitches in what was his final game in a Duke uniform.Â
Â
Swart, who had worked his way back from Tommy John surgery to become the Saturday starter for the Blue Devils in 2016, embodied the Blue Collar persona that head coach
Chris Pollard so often refers.Â
