11 Blue Devils Post Top 10 Performances at Regionals

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke fencing team hosted the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Saturday in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center as 11 Blue Devils notched top-10 performances, highlighted by sophomore Zoe Superville and junior Brycen Rushing finishing in the top three of their respective weapons.

Saturday featured 11 Blue Devils who advanced to the final round of pool play, including all four men's foilists.

The finalists were Superville, Rushing, Danny Campbell III, Alex Gorman, Eoin Gronningsater, Finn Hossfeld, Ping Ping Kitsiriboon, Lindsay Sapienza, Jonathan Schwartzman, Ben Stone and Bowen Wang.

Superville finished in second place overall to pace the entire team with 20 victories while Rushing added 14 dubs, allowing him to place third.

In addition to Superville and Rushing, other Blue Devils who finished in the top 10 were: Gronningsater (fourth – foil), Campbell III (fourth – epee), Gorman (fourth – saber), Schwartzman (fifth – foil), Wang (fifth – epee), Kitsiriboon (sixth – saber), Hossfeld (seventh – foil), Stone (seventh – saber) and Sapienza (seventh – saber).

The Blue Devils will finish the 2020 season at the NCAA Fencing Championships March 19-22 in Detroit, Mich. Qualifiers for the national meet will be announced next week.

A fencer's performance at regionals will have a direct impact on their chance at qualifying for the NCAA Championships, as both their regular season resumé and placing at the regional meet will be considered when the field is selected next week.
