DURHAM, N.C. – With the abrupt ending of the 2019-20 golf seasons, the Duke men's and women's golf programs raised $10,479.25 this year for the Duke Children's Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units.
Through three years of the Birdies for Babies program, which was created by 2019 Duke graduate
Virginia Elena Carta, the Blue Devils have raised $47,302 to go towards the Duke Children's Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units.
The men's golf team closed the season ranked No. 12 nationally and featured two Blue Devils in the top 20, individually. Junior Evan Katz was rated No. 11 by Golfweek, while Adrien Pendaries was at No. 12.
As a team, the Blue Devils won the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in October, finished second at the
Rod Myers Invitational in September, and was the runner-up in a pair of match-play events – the Jack Nicklaus Invitational and the Cypress Point Classic.
The women's team elevated to No. 3 nationally in the spring, before closing the season at fourth in the Golfweek ledger. The Blue Devils opened the spring with an impressive victory at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, which included nine top 10 programs. Duke also placed first in stroke play at the East Lake Cup, while carding third place finishes at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and the Tar Heel Invitational.
Duke was paced by senior
Ana Belac and junior
Jaravee Boonchant, who were ranked No. 3 and No. 13, respectively, in the final Golfweek rankings. Belac was the highest senior listed in the final rankings.
Those looking to support Duke's partnership with Duke Children's can make pledges per birdie. Pledges will start at $0.50 and high pledge increments are welcome. If the Blue Devils register an eagle (counts as two birdies), albatross (three birdies) and hole-in-one (four birdies) they will count as stated. Each pledge will receive an autographed photo of the Duke women's golf team.
