DURHAM, N.C. – Three members of the Duke swimming and diving team earned bids to the 2020 NCAA Championships on Wednesday.
Senior
Miles Williams will represent Duke swimming at this year's tournament, while senior
Nathaniel Hernandez and freshman
Ali Watson will be competing on behalf of Duke diving. In total the Blue Devils will be sending 10 to the NCAA Championships later this month.
Earlier Wednesday morning, the NCAA released its 2020 invite list of swimmers with Williams being the lone member representing the Blue Devils. Williams qualified for the 100 freestyle after swimming a 42.53 at the 2020 ACC Championships to improve his 'B' cut time. Last season, the Hong Kong, China, native finished tied for 26th at the NCAA Championships in the event.
"I'm incredibly proud of Miles for once again making the NCAA Championships," head coach
Dan Colella said. "As a senior, I know he is excited to end his college career at the most prestigious meet in the country, not only as a participant but as a scorer."
At the final day of the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships, Hernandez and Watson both qualified in platform diving.
Hernandez punched his third ticket in three days and will appear in all three diving events at the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year. The Southlake, Texas, native scored 703.05 in the platform diving event to place fourth and secure qualification.
Coming off a third-place finish in platform diving at the ACC Championships, Watson placed fourth in the finals on Wednesday with an overall score of 515.00. Watson will join the three other female individuals who qualified as well as the four relay-only representatives for Duke next week.
The women's NCAA Championships is on the horizon for the eight Blue Devils that will be competing at the event. The event will run March 18-21 in Athens, Ga. The men's tournament will be held March 25-28 in Indianapolis, Ind with Duke duo Hernandez and Williams competing.
