DURHAM, N.C.—Duke men's soccer standout striker
Daniele Proch has signed a contract with local United Soccer League club North Carolina FC as announced by the team Thursday. The transaction is pending league and federation approval, and no further details were disclosed, per club policy.
A native of Riva Del Garda, Italy, Proch spearheaded Duke's offense over the course of his three seasons with the Blue Devils. He garnered All-America second team honors in 2018 and also was named a Hermann Trophy semifinalist. This past season, Proch was the undisputed leader on the field, leading the team with 12 goals and five assists for 29 points. He totaled 41 percent of the team's 29 goals and 33 percent of Duke's 87 points on the year.
"We did have a glimpse of Daniele last summer when he was here for a couple weeks of training," NCFC head coach Dave Sarachan said. "We saw something in him that we liked. For him to showcase himself again these past few days sort of solidified himself. He can play in a variety of positions in the final third, either as a central guy or from both sides."
Proch came to Duke after one season at Catawba College and quickly became the Blue Devils' catalyst on offense. He totaled five goals and 12 points in his first season and followed that with 11 and 12 in the next two campaigns, respectively. He finished his collegiate career with 36 goals and 18 assists for 90 points.
With Proch in the fold, NCFC's current roster includes: goalkeepers Alex Tambakis and Trace Alphin; defenders Caleb Duvernay, Sam Brotherton, Conor Donovan, Alex Comsia, DJ Taylor and Adam Armour; midfielders Ben Speas, Nazmi Albadawi, Steven Miller, Graham Smith, Pecka, Manny Perez and Luke Hille; and forwards Robert Kristo, Hadji Barry, and Proch.
NCFC opens up its regular season at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, March 7 at 2:30 p.m. against Louisville City FC.
