DURHAM, N.C.— As we celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, let's take a look at how ESPNW is influencing the next generation of females in sports.
In the fall, the Blue Devils welcomed a group Duke Alumnae and ESPN staff members to campus for the second iteration of the ESPNW Campus Conversations series at Duke. The evening started with a panel discussion featuring former Duke student athletes Angel Brown '15 (lacrosse), Laura Gentile '94 (field hockey), Sue Gordon '80 (basketball), and Sue Harnett '91 (basketball). Moderated by ESPN senior writer Alyssa Roenigk, each of the women shared experiences on how their time at Duke helped shape their value system and life lessons from moments of adversity.
"I think at times, especially now that I'm a senior, I get kind of freaked out about what I'm going to do in the future, but I think that Duke Athletics and having a large company like ESPN and ESPNW coming to speak to us was very important," commented Mackenzie Coles. "And it was really meaningful to show how much Duke cares about us."
