DURHAM, N.C. – The seventh-ranked Duke women's tennis team returned to the court Friday evening with a 6-1 victory over Virginia Tech in Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
With the win, the Blue Devils improve to 10-2 and 3-0 in the ACC as the Hokies drop to 7-4 and 0-4 in the conference.
For the ninth time this season and the third match in a row, the Blue Devils captured the doubles point.
Chloe Beck and
Kelly Chen were quick off the court with a 6-1 victory on court one over Shene Disbergen and Natalie Novotna before
Summer Dvorak and
Hannah Zhao made swift work of Erika Cheng and Nina Sorkin, 6-0, on court three.
With the victories, Beck and Chen improve to 7-4 in dual matches and remain undefeated in theACC (3-0) as Dvorak and Zhao secured their first conference dub.
Senior
Meible Chi continued her hot streak Friday in singles with a court two victory. Ranked No. 80 by the ITA, Chi downed Nika Kozar (6-2, 6-2) to remain Duke's lone undefeated player in dual match play (10-0).
Graduate Dvorak was next off the court to give Duke its third point of the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Disbergen on court six. With the victory, Dvorak improves to 5-1 in dual match play and 2-0 in conference.
It was Chen who clinched the match for the Blue Devils to remain undefeated in conference play (3-0). Tabbed No. 7 by the ITA, Chen took down Novotna (6-4, 6-1) on Duke's top court.
Despite clinching the match, the Blue Devils continued to play out singles with rookie Beck next off the court. Beck, who owns an ITA ranking of No. 30, picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win on court four over Sorkin before No. 48 Bilokin defeated 6-2, 6-3 Elizabet Danailova on court three.
Zhao fell to Erika Cheng (6-3, 3-6, 1-0 [8]) in a super tiebreak on court five to close out the match.
Duke will continue its homestand Sunday to face non-conference foe William & Mary at noon in Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
