WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior
Matt Wisner took first place in the men's invite 800m as the Duke track & field team wrapped up at the JDL DMR Invitational on Saturday.
Wisner claimed the top spot with a raw time of 1:50.17, which with a flat track conversion time of 1.55 seconds will go in as 1:48.62 – the 11th-fastest mark in the nation this indoor season. The senior from Carlisle, Pa., beat North Carolina A&T's Abbas Abbkar and Mississippi State's Devroe Dejon, who owned the 16th and 23rd-best times in the 800m, respectively, coming into Saturday's event.
The Blue Devils were also represented in the men's and women's pole vault. On the women's side, senior
Chesney Ward placed second with a clearance of 3.80m (12-5.50 feet), while freshman Kaeli Thomspon set a personal record with a third-place mark of 3.65 (11-11.75). Senior
Esteban Suarez earned second place in the men's event, clearing 4.80 (15-9.0). Sophomore
Cole Rowan came in at fifth with a clearance of 4.64 (15-3.0).
The indoor season approaches its penultimate meet at the ACC Indoor Championships next weekend in South Bend, Ind. Events will begin on Thursday, Feb. 27 and run through Saturday, Feb. 29. Coverage of Friday and Saturday's events will be aired exclusively on ACC Network Extra.
