SEBRING, Fla. – Duke University women's golf junior
Gina Kim closed a wire-to-wire victory Thursday at the Harder Hall Women's Invitational as she shot a one-under-par, 287, at the Harder Hall Resort Club in Sebring, Fla.
A native of Chapel Hill, N.C., Kim collected rounds of 67, 69, 78 and 73 to win by one stroke over Chloe Kovelesky (288). Duke incoming freshman Sophia Bae placed sixth with rounds of 76, 69, 71 and 78 for a 294.
"Being able to compete after four months of preparing and getting ready really feels great and I'm truly grateful to everyone who's supported me this whole time," said Kim. "This win helped wrap up a difficult year on a good note and I look forward to what next year has in store for me."
Kim struggled to open Thursday's final round with three bogeys over her first 10 holes, but closed strong with birdies on No. 11 and No. 16 as she played the final eight holes at two-under-par. She collected 15 birdies and one eagle over a span of four rounds.
Kim joins former Blue Devils Jenny Chuasiriporn (1998) and Beth Bauer (1999, 2000), who also won the Harder Hall Invitational.
Before returning for the spring semester at Duke, Kim will next compete in the South Atlantic Women's Amateur Championship, which will take place January 6-9 at Oceanside Country Club in Ormond Beach, Fla.
