DURHAM, N.C. – The ACC announced on Tuesday three Blue Devils -- defensive back Michael Carter II, defensive end Victor Dimukeje and defensive end Chris Rumph II -- earned All-ACC recognition.
Each of the league's 15 teams placed at least one player on the All-ACC Teams, which were chosen by a vote of a select 49-member media panel and the league's 15 head coaches. Three points were awarded for each first-team vote, two points for each second-team vote and one point for each third-team selection.
Rumph II was tabbed to the second team, while Carter II was named to the third team. In addition, Dimukeje garnered honorable mention honors. Rumph II and Dimukeje both earned all-conference citations for the second time in their careers. This was the first all-league honor for Carter II.
Rumph II, a 6-4, 235-pound redshirt junior from Gainesville, Fla., ranked second in the ACC in sacks and seventh in tackles for loss. He finished the year with 53 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 8.0 sacks, five quarterback hurries, one caused fumble, and one fumble recovery. His 8.0 sacks place him tied with Chris Combs (1996) for sixth all-time on Duke's single season chart. Three of those sacks came against Charlotte to tie him for third in program lore for a single game. Rumph II also matched his career best tackle performance with eight against Boston College back in September. For the year, he earned four games with two-plus tackles for loss and two contests with two-plus sacks. He closes his Blue Devil tenure fourth in Duke history with 17.5 career sacks and 10th in tackles for loss with 34.0.
Carter II, a 5-11, 190-pound senior from Douglasville, Ga., garnered 41 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, two interceptions and eight pass breakups this past season. He finished tied for ninth in the ACC in passes defended with 10. Carter II also earned a season best eight tackles against Charlotte and accumulated three-plus tackles six times on the year. For his career, he recorded 24 pass breakups, which places him tied with Quinton McCracken (1988-91) for 10th all-time in program history.
Dimukeje, a 6-3, 265-pound senior from Baltimore, Md., concluded his final season with 44 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, two caused fumbles, one fumble recovery and five quarterback pressures. He finished fourth in the ACC in sacks and ninth in tackles for loss. He posted two multi-sack games this season vs. Boston College and Syracuse, while registering four games with 1.5-plus tackles for loss. In Duke's game against Boston College, Dimukeje tallied 3.5 sacks to match teammate Rumph II for the second-most in program history for a single game. His 7.5 season sacks also place him eighth for a single season. Finally, he will graduate second all-time at Duke in career sacks with 21.5 and tied for eighth with 36.0 career tackles for loss.
