DURHAM, N.C.-- Duke women's soccer is currently ranked sixth nationally, is sporting a 6-3-2 record this season and head coach
Robbie Church has an impressive accomplishment of his own.
In his 20th season at Duke, Church has led the team to many successes. Under his leadership, the Blue Devils have three NCAA College Cup appearances and two ACC Regular Season titles. After the victory over Miami on Sunday, he added another accolade to the list: 250 wins.
Church joined Duke Athletics in July 2001 and has served as the head coach ever since. In 2011, he earned Soccer America National Coach of the Year and his staff was honored in 2017 as the United Soccer Coaches National Staff of the Year. Church was recognized as the ACC Coach of the Year in both 2011 and 2017 and has led the Blue Devils to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances. Church is a defining member of the Duke women's soccer program and is beloved by current and former Blue Devils.
"Robbie is a prominent leader in the world of college soccer and has changed the game for all the players that he has coached," senior midfielder
Lily Nabet remarked. "Being able to accomplish 250 wins is incredible and even more amazing to be a part of. I am so happy for him and excited to get him some more wins!"
Church has also made a lasting impact on the alumni of the Duke women's soccer program over his 20 years as head coach.
"Robbie is way more than the head coach of a top five team in the nation. He's an amazing role model and mentor - cares about our lives outside of soccer," 2013 Duke women's soccer alumna Libby Jandl exclaimed. "I would definitely consider him a second dad in my life and I'm so appreciative that Robbie continues to check in on my life even after graduation."
"250 wins is an incredible achievement and it is certainly well-deserved after years of hard work and commitment to the Duke women's soccer program," 2005 Duke women's soccer alumni Casey McCluskey added. "He's an incredible coach, an even better person and the program is lucky to have such an amazing coach."
Church's 250 wins is an amazing accomplishment to add to a legendary career and it's not even the end of the 2020 season. Church will lead the Blue Devils in the ACC Championship, which begins Nov. 10 versus fifth-seeded Clemson at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.. Fans will be able to watch live at 3:00 p.m., (ET) on ACC Network.
