In addition to lacrosse, Schwasnick was a middle hitter on the Oceanside varsity volleyball team as a junior and senior. She was also a member of National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society and High Honor Roll.
Meet Julia:
How has the adjustment from HS lacrosse to college lacrosse been so far? My adjustment from high school lacrosse to college lacrosse has been great! My teammates and coaching staff have been so welcoming and supportive throughout the adjustment and made Duke feel like home right away! The game is definitely much faster and competitive at the college level, but I have loved the intense atmosphere of college lacrosse. I have learned so much about lacrosse in such a short amount of time and I can't wait to see what the future holds.
What has been your favorite moment of DWL? My favorite moment of DWL thus far has been our trip to Wrightsville Beach. We played spike ball, tanned, played football on the beach and I had the best time! Overall, it was such a great day and allowed our team to bond and have fun.
Who is your roommate and what has been your favorite moment with them so far? My roommate is Katie Desimone, and I couldn't have asked for a better person to live with. We became best friends so quickly and are always laughing. We have countless fun memories together, but my favorite memory of ours is when she blindfolded me and surprised me with a surprise birthday party – it was so fun! I also love all our TikTok dances we make (even though we can't dance)!
What was the semester like in the midst of COVID-19? Although coming into my freshman year during a pandemic is not ideal, we have been extremely lucky to have the opportunity to be able to play and be on campus throughout the fall. The team has become like a family to me and I couldn't be happier here! I have loved being able to challenge myself both on the field and in the classroom. It has been great to be surrounded by such encouraging and hard-working people every day. I am super excited to get back to Duke this January!
Best lacrosse memory: Having the opportunity to play two years of varsity lacrosse with my sister.
Why did you choose Duke? I chose Duke because of its unmatched balance of exceptional academics with elite athletics. It is also such a family-like atmosphere that is full of people that want to help you succeed. Duke will challenge me and develop me into a better person, student and athlete.
Goals for your collegiate career: To win both an ACC and National Championship and be the best possible teammate I can be.
To be a part of the Duke Women's Lacrosse program is… both a dream and an honor that I am tremendously grateful and proud of.
Favorite athlete: LeBron James
When did you start playing lacrosse? Describe your early days: I have been playing lacrosse for as long as I can remember. I played on my first team in 2nd grade and started playing club lacrosse in 3rd grade.
What do you plan to major in? I am currently undecided but plan to major in business/economics.
Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions? I always blast music to get me and my teammates pumped up.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? In 10 years, I hope to be married and starting a family. I hope I am pursuing something I love in the business field and to still be involved in lacrosse in some way.
Who has had the biggest impact on your life and why? My parents: they have always been my biggest supporters and constantly instilled determination and a strong work ethic onto me. I would not be the person I am today without their guidance.
Hobbies: I love to snowboard and travel.
If you were to play another sport, what would it be? Soccer
Interesting fact about yourself/hidden talent: I have been skiing since I was three.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Hawaii
Best advice you've ever received: "Hard work beats talent when talent does not work hard".
