DURHAM, N.C. – Following another impressive season, head coach
Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to now welcome the 2020 recruiting class. Catcher and infielder
Alex Stone is a part of the talented group set to arrive in Durham next fall.
"Alex Stone is a guy that really projects with the bat," said Pollard. "He's tall, he's about 6'5 and 220 pounds with a lot of arm strength and a chance to hit with power. He's got really good barrel-to-ball skills and really good contact. He's also athletic enough to bounce out from behind the plate and play some other spots in the field. He's played some infield, but he really has plus arm strength from behind the plate."
A letterwinner at Newton High School, Stone comes to Durham as a native of Andover, N.J. Stone has enjoyed a solid prep career at NHS as a three-time All-Conference honoree. The 6-5 catcher batted at an impressive .519 clip his sophomore campaign, on his way to earning First Team All-County recognition while also receiving All-State honors.
An active member in the community, Stone serves as an assistant basketball coach in a local recreation program. He has been a member of the honor roll in each of his semesters at Newton, while serving as a member of both the peer leaders group and the student council.
Stone is regarded as a top-400 national prospect according to Perfect Game, being listed as the 30
th-ranked catcher in the country. Additionally, the organization lists Stone as the ninth-best prospect and the second-ranked catcher in the state of New Jersey.
Stone is a part of Duke's 12-member 2020 recruiting class. GoDuke.com is set to release details on all 12 of the newest Blue Devils in the coming weeks.
