DURHAM, N.C. – Following another successful season, head coach
Robbie Church and the Duke women's soccer program are excited to now welcome the 2020 recruiting class.
Nicole Chico is a part of the talented group set to arrive in Durham next fall.
"We're excited to have Nicole Chico join us," said Church. "One of her greatest assets is her personality. She's an unbelievable team person, an unbelievable positive person, and she's just going to be great. On the field, she brings a ball of energy to us. She can play both as a right back or she can play left back. She gets herself forward. She's good on the ball and she's a good one-on-one defender. Nicole has worked very hard to overcome her ACL to be ready to play in the fall."
A successful player on both the high school and club level, Chico comes to Durham as a native of Wyckoff, N.J. The future Blue Devil enjoyed an impressive junior season at Ramapo High School, where she tallied nine goals and six assists as a defender. Chico has garnered numerous accolades across her prep career, receiving All-County honors, All-Conference honors, All-State honors and All-American honors, while being tabbed as the Mid-season "Defender of the Year".
On the club level, Chico competes for the Players Development Academy (PDA) under head coach Mike O'Neill. She has been named to the Development Academy Best XI players of East Conference, while also participating in both the ECNL National Camp and the ID training Center/Combine. Chico has served as the captain for her PDA squad for the past three years.
A two-sport athlete, Chico also competed in varsity track during her junior year at Ramapo. A well-rounded student-athlete, she also has made the honor roll for the past three years.
Chico is regarded as the No. 125 prospect in the nation according to TopDrawerSoccer, while being listed as the seventh-ranked player in the region and the 27
th-best defender in the country.
Chico is part of Duke's six-member 2020 recruiting class. GoDuke.com is set to release details on all six of the newest Blue Devils in the coming weeks.
