Julia Gianneschi was tabbed ACC Fencer of the Week following her season-opening performance aet the Penn State Duals over the weekend, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
The Blue Devil women picked up wins over Haverford (27-0), Penn (15-12) and Yale (14-13) and fell to 2019 NCAA Champions Columbia (14-13), Penn State (15-12) and Temple (15-12). On the men's side, Duke topped Haverford (23-4) and Yale (19-8) and lost to Columbia (17-10), Penn (15-12) and Penn State (15-12).
The women's foil squad went 4-2 on the day and was led by Gianneschi with 12 victories. The Atlanta, Ga., native captured the winning point in Duke's 14-13 battle on the strips against Yale.
Duke will return to action Saturday, Jan. 18 for the Philadelphia Invitational.
