JT Giles-Harris National Player of the Year Candidate
Inside Lacrosse recently released its list for the men's Tewaaraton Award race among Division I programs and Duke senior defenseman
JT Giles-Harris is among the short list of candidates. The reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-American is the lone defenseman on Inside Lacrosse's 10-player list.
Powerful and possessing an incredible lacrosse IQ, Giles-Harris ranked third in the ACC last season in caused turnovers and ranked third among non-faceoff specialists in ground balls. In his career, the Nyack, N.Y., native has started 55 of 56 games, owns 57 caused turnovers and has picked up 100 ground balls. His 26 takeaways last season ranked fifth in Duke single-season history.
Joe Robertson Nears Century Goal Mark
Junior attackman
Joe Robertson is set to become the 21st Blue Devil to amass 100 career goals. With 90 tallies to his name, Robertson could reach that in the first month of season based on his career average of 2.4 goals per game. He has scored a goal in all but three games in his career and owns 20 hat tricks. In addition, Robertson will take a 29-game point streak into the 2020 campaign. He has been held without a point just once in his career and has 91 points in his 29-game run. The Charlottesville, Va., native is one of 24 current Division I players to have a point in at least 20 straight games.
Manown at 100 and Counting
Senior attackman
Joey Manown's final goal of the 2019 season in the NCAA semifinal lifted him to 100 career points. He is the 46th Duke player to reach the benchmark and is tied for 45th with Jim Neffgen. Manown currently has 70 goals and 30 assists, leaving him 30 goals shy of 100. He would need a career-high 30 goals – he had 29 as a rookie in 2017 – to join the elite list of Duke scorers. Last season he scored at least one goal in 13 of the 17 outings.
Giles-Harris Chasing Caused Turnover Record
Giles-Harris enters his final season with 57 career caused turnovers and will chase the Duke caused turnovers record held by Luke Duprey. The NCAA officially started tracking the stat in 2010, and Duprey climbed to the top of the list with 88. Giles-Harris, who will draw the opponent's top attackman in 2020, needs 32 takeaways to best Duprey in the record book, six more than he had last season. He has increased his total in each of his three previous seasons from nine to 22 to 26.
