INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the third straight year, Duke University freshman
Erica Shepherd will advance to weekend action as an amateur at the LPGA Indy Women in Tech Championship, which is being played at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Club in Indianapolis, Ind.
Shepherd, who hails from Greenwood, Ind., carded rounds of 70 and 74 for an even-par, 144, which was tied for 57th. She will be the only amateur playing the weekend.
In round one, she turned in six birdies and a two-under-par, 70, as she hit 10 fairways, 13 greens and rolled 29 putts. Shepherd drained a 12-foot birdie on No. 10 and then a nine-footer on No. 12 to move to two-under-par early in the round.
A preseason All-America selection for the Blue Devils, Shepherd had a hot start to Friday's second round as she carded birdies on No. 2 and No. 4 to get to four-under-par for the tournament. This moved her into the top 20 of the individual leaderboard. She had four bogeys over her final six holes to close the round with a 74.
Shepherd placed tied for 72nd in 2018 and tied for 77nd in 2017. Mi Jung Hur leads the individual action with an 11-under-par, 133.
Fans will be able to follow the action live on the Golf Channel this weekend on Sept. 28 (12:30-4 p.m.) and Sept. 29 (1-4 p.m.).
Following the LPGA Indy Women in Tech Championship, Shepherd will travel to Chicago, Ill., to compete with the Blue Devils in the Windy City Collegiate, which will take place Sept. 30 through Oct. 1. It will mark her second collegiate event.
