DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University women's golf freshman Erica Shepherd will travel to her home state of Indiana this week to compete in the LPGA Indy Women in Tech Championship on a sponsor exemption at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Club in Indianapolis, Ind.
The tournament will take place from Sept. 26-29 and includes three other Blue Devil golfers – Brittany Lang, Lindy Duncan and Yu Liu.
"I think that being gone for a month now has made me realize how much I miss home and how much I love it," commented Shepherd. "I've never been so excited to be heading home and just to see everyone there. It's always good to have like a hometown crowd, so I'm excited."
It will mark the third time Shepherd has competed in the LPGA Indy Women in Tech Championship as she saw action in 2017 and 2018. She has made the cut in both events, while finishing as high as tied for 72nd in 2018. Shepherd, a native of Greenwood, Ind., will compete in her sixth professional tournament. She has made the cut in three of the five events.
"It's an awesome tournament," added Shepherd. "It's always a great learning experience and just to get my first taste of college golf a week ago and then I have this experience; I think that it's just a whole lot of learning opportunities and I'm just really grateful for it."
Shepherd will tee off Thursday in the first round beginning at 1:47 p.m., along with Gerina Piller and Mariah Stackhouse. Fans will be able to follow the action live on the Golf Channel Sept. 26 (1-5 p.m.), Sept. 27 (12:30-4 p.m.), Sept. 28 (12:30-4 p.m.) and Sept. 29 (1-4 p.m.)
Following the LPGA Indy Women in Tech Championship, Shepherd will travel to Chicago, Ill., to compete with the Blue Devils in the Windy City Collegiate, which will take place Sept. 30 through Oct. 1. It will mark her second collegiate event.
In her collegiate debut, Shepherd turned in an even-par, 72, at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate and then went on to sign for rounds of 76 and 78. She finished in 44th overall.
