DURHAM, N.C. – Year three of the Birdies for Babies program has kicked off and the Duke men's and women's golf programs have already raised $1,278.75, after their first tournaments of the season. All money raised goes towards the Duke Children's Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units.
During the first two years of the program, the Blue Devils have raised over $36,000, after a record-breaking 2018-19 season raising $26,322.75.
In the men's golf season opener, the Blue Devils turned in an impressive second place finish in the 10th annual
Rod Myers Invitational. Duke carded a 19-under-par ledger, its second-lowest score in
Rod Myers Invitational history. The Blue Devils totaled 71 birdies and four eagles over the three rounds.
The women's golf team, who was preseason ranked No. 2 nationally, traveled to Lake Elmo, Minn., to compete in the challenging ANNIKA Intercollegiate and finished in ninth overall. The Blue Devils carded 44 birdies and two eagles over the 54 holes.
Those looking to support Duke's partnership with the Duke Children's can make pledges per birdie. Pledges will start at $0.50 and high pledge increments are welcome. If the Blue Devils register an eagle (counts as two birdies), albatross (three birdies) and hole-in-one (four birdies) they will count as stated. Each pledge will receive an autographed photo of the Duke women's golf team.
The men's program will next compete in the Nike Collegiate Invitational Sept. 29-30 in Portland, Ore., while the women's team will travel to Chicago, Ill, to play in the Windy City Collegiate Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
