DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's tennis team is set to kick off the 2019 fall slate this weekend Sept. 20-22 at the 33rd Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C. The tournament will feature 13 teams at the Mickel Tennis Center, in a flighted competition (i.e. no team winner, just individual flight champions for singles and doubles).
All 13 teams competing in the tournament were ranked in the top 65 in the 2018 final ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings: North Carolina (3), Duke (4), South Carolina (5), Vanderbilt (8), Texas (9), Florida State (15), Tennessee (22), Wake Forest (23), Ohio State (25), Georgia Tech (35), Mississippi State (50), Furman (55), and Clemson (68).
The 13-team field includes 17 singles players ranked in the top 75 and eight doubles teams ranked in the top 40 in the preseason ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings.
Doubles play will begin at 9 a.m., on Friday, followed by singles action at 1 p.m. Play will continue on Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. each day.
