DURHAM, N.C. – Duke hits the road to close out its final tournament of the regular season at the Hofstra Invitational Sept. 20-21 in Hempstead, N.Y.
Duke will take on No. 14 Oregon Friday at 1 p.m., before a noon matchup against St. John's Saturday. The Blue Devils will close out their time in New York against Hofstra at 7 p.m. All matches will be streamed on FloSports with live stats available on Statbroadcast.
Duke fell to American, Georgia and Northwestern at home during the Blue Devil Classic last weekend and dropped to 5-5 overall this season.
The 2019 version of the Pride is currently 7-3 and has won five straight matches, including earning the title at the Dartmouth Invitational last weekend. Hofstra is led by Laura Masciullo with 158 kills (4.05 kills-per-set average) and setter Luisa Sydlik with 429 assists (11.29 assists-per-set).
Oregon enters the tournament with a 3-3 record in 2019 after reaching the national quarterfinal of last year's NCAA Tournament. The Ducks return Ronika Stone, Willow Johnson and Brooke Nuneviller, all of whom earned All-America honors in 2018 and were selected to the Preseason All-Pac-12 Team. Stone leads Oregon with 72 kills and ranks second on the team with 20 blocks this season.
Last weekend, the Red Storm collected a pair of straight-set victories against Stony Brook and Florida A&M before suffering a hard-fought defeat at the hands of then-No.25 Florida State during the Home2 Suites Tallahassee Seminole Invitational. Sophomores Efrosini Alexakou and Rachele Rastelli were both named to the All-Tournament Team after recording double-doubles in a loss to Florida State that went to extra points twice in three sets. Alexakou put down 36 kills across three contests, 15 of which came against the Seminoles, and averaged four kills per set. Rastelli posted 12 kills and 12 digs against Florida State.
Following the tournament this weekend, Duke will return to Cameron Indoor Stadium to open ACC play with Florida State on Sept. 27 and Miami Sept. 29.
