DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team closed out the 2019 Blue Devil Classic Saturday as they fell to Georgia 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-23) in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Bulldogs hit .301 for the match and limited the Blue Devils to just a .139 clip. Georgia amassed 49 kills and was led by Kianna Young while setter Meghan Donovan dished a whopping 45 assists.
Rookies
Lizzie Flemming and
Camille Nazor tallied six and four blocks, respectively, to win the battle at the net with seven total team blocks to Georgia's two. Libero
Mackenzie Cole added 13 digs while freshman
Gracie Johnson recorded 11 of her own to along with one service ace.
Duke began to find its rhythm in the third set and hit .407 percent and led the majority of the final frame. Duke led 22-17 before Georgia reeled off five straight points to tie it up. Georgia's Young tallied four kills in the final few points to hand Duke a loss.
Duke will close out its final tournament of the regular season September 20-21 at the Hofstra Invitational in Hempstead, N.Y.
