DURHAM, N.C. – Duke's five match win streak came to an end Friday as they were swept by American and Northwestern to open the Blue Devil Classic in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
MATCH 1 vs. AMERICAN:
Duke snapped its win streak in the first match of the day as they fell to American 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-17) as the Eagles hit .278.
Lizzie Fleming headlined Duke's defense with four blocks and
Gracie Johnson led the team with seven kills.
American was led by Asli Celikkol with 10 kills to hit .292 and Olivia Wassner dished 29 assists.
MATCH 2 vs. NORTHWESTERN
The Blue Devils weren't able to find their groove in the second match as Duke fell to Northwestern 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-13) Friday evening.
The Wildcats hit .397 for the match with just eight hitting errors and were led by Temi Thomas-Ailara and Olivia Viscuso with 10 kills each. Senior
Samantha Amos notched 10 kills for Duke.
Duke will close out the Blue Devil Classic Saturday with a 3 p.m., match against Georgia.
