DURHAM, N.C. – For the sixth time in school history, a Blue Devil will be competing in the Solheim Cup as former Duke University National Player of the Year Celine Boutier will represent the European squad at the biennial competition that gets started Friday, Sept. 13. Â
The competition will take place Sept. 13-15 in Gleneagles, Scotland against the United States. Â
It will mark Boutier's first appearance in the Solheim Cup, after former Blue Devil Brittany Lang represented the United States in each of the previous five Solheim Cups. Â
European captain Catriona Matthew will be joined by Boutier, Bronte Law, Suzann Pettersen, Jodi Ewart-Shadoff, Carlota Ciganda, Anne Van Dam, Caroline Hedwall, Charley Hull, Georgia Hall, Azahara Munoz, Carline Masson and Anna Nordqvist. Â
A 2016 Duke graduate, Boutier has turned in a breakout season, which featured her first LPGA victory at the ISPS Handa Vic Open in February. She currently ranks 20th on the LPGA money list with $700,582 earnings, while notching three other top 10 finishes. Boutier, a member of the 2014 Duke NCAA Championship squad, tied for fifth at the U.S. Women's Open and was sixth at the AIG Women's British Open. Â
The Solheim Cup is contested between two teams of 12 players over three days. It follows the same format as The Ryder Cup, with 28 matches – eight foursomes and eight fourballs over the first two days and 12 singles on the final day.
Europe will look to get back on the winning side, after the United States won both the 2015 and 2017 events. Â
