Frick's Preseason Thoughts
Junior defender Matthias Frick returns to help anchor the backline as a talented physical and vocal presence. The Austria native is expected to have a breakout season as a defensive standout after a spectacular spring and outstanding start to preseason. He also sees a lot of potential in the Blue Devils' veteran returning team.
On the team's form so far in preseason
“We've started well. With captains' practices, we had some very good practices together. Yesterday with the seperators in the morning and just did a little technical work after. In the evening, unfortunately the weather was in our way. But today in the 9v9, I saw a lot of good things offensively as well as defensively. Everyone was ready. Everyone was competing. I'm looking forward to a very good season.”
On his role this season
“I want to be a leader for the team. It's my third year now and I've played two seasons and I want to lead the team to a very great season. We have a chip on our shoulder from the last two years when we were out in the sweet 16. This year we want to get further. We have the experience and we know how to do it. We just got to deliver.”
Proch One of NCAA's 11 Players to Watch
Already on the Hermann Trophy Watch List, senior forward Daniele Proch recently was listed by NCAA Soccer as one of 11 players to watch. Proch is one of three players from the ACC recognized after having a breakout junior campaign in scoring 11 goals – more than double his sophomore total – and being named a Hermann Trophy semifinalist.

Overall, the Gamecocks have nine freshmen on the roster and return two of the top four scorers and also have Justin Bauer back in goal after playing over 600 minutes last season.
