CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Nearly a week after wrapping up the regular season in thrilling fashion, Blue Devil swimmers returned to Chapel Hill for the first day of the Janis Hape Dowd Nike Invitational at North Carolina's Koury Natatorium.
In a strong start to Friday evening's finals session, sophomore Carly Perri and freshman Shae Nicolaisen turned in a one-two finish in the women's 500-yard freestyle. Nicolaisen stopped the clock at 4:55.90 in finals for her best mark of the season while Perri's preliminaries time of 4:50.96 was good for a career best.
After freshman Henry Wu posted a season-best time of 1:52.67 for third in the men's 200 individual medley, freshman Rachel Peroni claimed the women's 50 freestyle (23.50) with senior Suzanne Dolan taking second (23.61) and junior Kira Page fourth (23.99). Earlier in the day, Peroni tapped the wall at 23.32 in preliminaries for her best mark of the season. The men's 50 freestyle finals saw freshman Colson Zucker tack on another best time in a third-place finish (21.02).
