DURHAM, N.C. –Phil Steele Publications announced that Duke redshirt sophomore wide receiver Damond Philyaw-Johnson earned fourth team All-America accolades as a return specialist Monday.
Philyaw-Johnson, a 6-1, 170-pound redshirt sophomore from Pensacola, Fla., matched an NCAA single-game record with two kickoff returns for touchdowns against Wake Forest. The two kickoff returns for scores in a single game marked the second time in ACC history a player achieved the feat. His 251 kickoff return yards versus the Demon Deacons marked the highest single-game total in school history as well.
For his efforts, Philyaw-Johnson was named the ACC Specialist of the Week. On the year, he compiled 17 returns, 549 yards, 32.29 average, and two TDs.
Philyaw-Johnson is the eighth Blue Devil to receive Phil Steele All-America honors. The most recent selection was Joe Giles-Harris (third team) in 2017.
