DURHAM, N.C. – For the third consecutive week Duke football saw one of its own earn an ACC weekly award, this time it was redshirt sophomore Chris Rumph IIbeing acknowledged
Rumph II recorded eight total tackles, including 3.5 quarterback sacks as the Blue Devils closed their season with a 27-17 win over visiting Miami. In addition to 3.5 tackles for loss, he also caused a fumble and registered a quarterback hurry.
Rumph II's final sack total marked the second highest in Duke single-game history, behind only a 4.0 sack outing by Blaine Earon vs. Georgia Tech in 1949. He spearheaded a Duke defense that limited Miami to 17 points (11.8 below its average), 98 rushing yards (25.1 below its average), 161 passing yards (104.9 below its average) and 259 total yards (130.8 below its average). He also helped hold Miami to just 4-of-19 on third-down conversions, including 0-for-9 in the second half.
The ACC's other weekly honors included Virginia's Bryce Perkins (quarterback) and Noah Taylor (linebacker), Boston College's AJ Dillon (running back) and Zion Johnson (offensive lineman), North Carolina's Dyami Brown (receiver) and Sam Howell (rookie), Syracuse's Trill Williams (defensive back) and Andre Szmyt (specialist).
Duke Student-Athlete of the Week
Rumph II also was named the Duke Student-Athlete of the Week following his strong performance on Saturday.
