DURHAM, N.C. β Five Blue Devil field hockey student-athletes were named to the ACC All-Conference teams Wednesday.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Sammi Steele, senior midfielders Margaux Paolino and Haley Schleicher and senior back Jillian Wolgemuth were named to the first team, while sophomore forward Leah Crouse was tabbed a second team honoree.
Steele ended the regular season with a 1.01 goals against average and aided the team to a 0.99 goals against average, a mark ranked fifth in the nation. Steele's 269 saves moved her to fifth all-time in school history and her seven shutouts lead the ACC. The first team accolade is the first for her and third overall All-ACC recognition, as she was named second team in 2017 and 2018.
Paolino captained the midfield that saw 11 goal scorers for the Blue Devils. The Villanova, Pa., native tallied one score and three assists during the regular season, and her 36 career assists rank fourth all-time in Blue Devil history. Paolino, who missed four games due to playing for the U.S. National Team in the Olympic qualifier against India on Nov. 1-2, earned her third first team honor of her career.
Schleicher, who helped man the midfield with Paolino, enters ACC tournament play with five goals, four assists and a perfect 3-3 penalty stroke ratio. Her 14 points and 20 shots on goal rank third on the team, and the All-ACC accolade is the first of her career.
One of the captains of the Blue Devil defense, Wolgemuth has helped Duke notch a 0.42 shutout per game mark, good for third in the country. The Mount Joy, Pa., native has one goal, one assist and leads the team with two defensive saves. The first team accolade is the first of her career and second overall (second team in 2018).
Crouse, named to her first All-ACC team, has led Duke's offense in all major categories. The Virginia Beach, Va., prospect leads the team in points (26) and is tied for first on the squad in goals (11) and assists (4).
The No. 5 Blue Devils are back in action Thursday, Nov. 7 in the ACC Championship quarterfinals against No. 4 Virginia. Start time is set for 5 p.m. on the ACCN.
