OPENING TIP
- In search of its 100th win and 20th title for an in-season tournament under Mike Krzyzewski, No. 1 Duke battles Georgetown Friday at Madison Square Garden.

- Duke has won the Empire Classic in each of its last two appearances, and is 11-2 all-time in the event. Under Coach K, the Blue Devils are 99-18 (.846) when playing in-season tournaments with 19 titles.

- Carey's 31 points in 23 minutes marked the fewest minutes by a Blue Devil in a 30-point effort, surpassing Shane Battier's 31 points in 24 minutes vs. Davidson (12/21/99).
- Duke leads the Georgetown series 8-7, including 6-3 in the Coach K era. The nine Duke-Georgetown games under Coach K have been decided by an average of 8.2 points.
- The Blue Devils and Hoyas met in the 2015 Empire Classic title game at MSG -- an 86-84 Duke win behind 32 points from Grayson Allen.

Duke and Georgetown have met 15 previous times, with the Blue Devils leading the series, 8-7.
In the Coach K era, the nine meetings favor Duke, 6-3.
The last meeting also came in the title game of the Empire Classic, an 86-84 Duke win on 11/22/15 behind 32 points from Grayson Allen at MSG.
The nine games played under Coach K have been decided by an average margin of 8.2 points.
Duke beat Georgetown, 85-77, in the 1989 Elite Eight in East Rutherford, N.J., to reach the Final Four.
COACH K & EWING
Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing has not yet faced Duke as either a player or head coach.
Ewing, though, was coached by
Mike Krzyzewski in two different Summer Olympics. Coach K was a Special Assistant for Team USA's gold medal in the 1984 games in Los Angeles and an Assistant Coach for USA's gold in the 1992 games in Barcelona.
TOURNAMENT SUCCESS UNDER COACH K
Duke has a high level of success in tournaments under Coach K, winning 19 in-season, 15 ACC and five NCAA Tournaments for a total of 39 championships in his tenure.
The Blue Devils claimed the PK80 Motion Bracket title in 2017-18, the program's 19th in-season crown, and last season won the ACC Tournament for the 15th time.
