TULSA, Okla. – It was a Blue Devil sweep of singles matches in the round of 64 at the 2019 ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) All-American Championships Wednesday evening in Tulsa, Okla., as all three Duke women's tennis players in the singles main draw secured victories.
Rookie
Chloe Beck has been unstoppable so far during the tournament as she fought her way into the main draw by winning both qualifying matches. Today, Beck secured a huge upset in straight sets over No. 11 Eden Richardson of LSU (6-4, 6-2). The victory marks Beck's third singles ranked win in Tulsa.
The Blue Devils continued their momentum as No. 5
Kelly Chen took down Brianna Shvets of Princeton 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 before No. 18
Meible Chi battled Notre Dame's No. 44 Zoe Spence in three sets. Despite multiple rain delays and ultimately having to move indoors, Chi came back from a first-set defeat to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Beck, Chen and Chi will all return to action Thursday in the round of 32.
